Alfred McNamara, a native of Staten Island, was born in Tompkinsville. He received his basic art training during the 1930's under Walter Drewes and studied under Bernie Klonis at the New York Industrial School of Art. He worked professionally as a costume, scene designer and illustrator before World War II. McNamara was the President of the Staten Island Museum Section of Art. Awards include the Eighth Air Force Show in England, the Staten Island Museum Members Exhibition, the Staten Island Museum Annual Spring Exhibition, the American Veterans Society of Artists, and the Staten Island Museum Weissglass Memorial Purchase Award.
