Description |
Staten Island photographer Bill Higgins kept a studio at Snug Harbor for many years, and the location influenced his work and his approach to photography. Growing up on a houseboat studio, moored in the Fresh Kills, created his enduring connection to maritime themes, so eloquently expressed in this photograph of the Bayonne Bridge, which connects Staten Island to Bayonne, NJ. This glossy, black-and-white nighttime photograph captures the lights on the bridge reflecting off the water of the Kill Van Kull. Higgins recalls shooting from Bayonne, New Jersey, facing Staten Island, "during a brutally cold winter night." He prefers shooting in the winter because the air is especially clear. |
