In tribute to the efforts, drive and passion of these inspired people, I paint them in their chosen surroundings. My images aim to uncap the philosophies and worth of those who quietly study the underpinnings of our world, bringing more of it to us. Sarah Yuster Ray Matarazzo Statement: 2007 My thirst for knowledge, and my love of Staten Island and its natural history, led me to environmental education. I always felt teaching young people to respect the earth is most important. In addition, the research and biological data that I collect in the field allows me to document the Island's rare, endangered, and extirpated species. This I am pleased to share with my fellow naturalists, scientists, and colleagues. |
