Description |
Alfred McNamara’s painting of a railroad employee walking down the steps of the Staten Island Railroad Eltingville Station was given to the Museum in 1943. People in his portraits generally appear to be introspective and comfortable in their environment. McNamara was a native of Staten Island, born in Tompkinsville. He was President of the Staten Island Museum Section of Art and worked professionally as an illustrator and costume and scene designer before World War II. His awards include the Staten Island Museum Members Exhibition, the Staten Island Museum Annual Spring Exhibition, the American Veterans Society of Artists, and the Staten Island Museum Weissglass Memorial Purchase Award. |
