Born in Brooklyn, Ferdinand Busing came to Staten Island in 1902 when he was 22. Known primarily for his oil paintings, his watercolors and prints are an invaluable record of the rural nature of Staten Island up to the last quarter of the 20th century. Standing on Prince’s Bay Bluff, located in Mount Loretto’s Unique Area, this 1926 etching captures a view of the SS White Dental Factory when it was a large part of Staten Island industry. The building was ultimately demolished. |
