Davis Acorn |
Description |
In the 1880s, William T. Davis discovered a grove of willow oak and hybrid oak trees in Tottenville, Staten Island. Apocryphally, Davis planted an acorn from one of those trees alongside the Museum in St. George in the 1930s. This tree still stands on the Wall Street side of the building. In 2019, an acorn from this tree was engraved by Sergey Jivetin during a Museum program. The engraving depicts a timeline of Staten Island and the Staten Island Museum. Earlier that same year, another hybrid oak tree descended from the trees in Tottenville was planted in front of Building B at Snug Harbor. |
