Description |
Agnes Nanogak Goose, a member of the Ulukhaktok or Holman community, was a prominent printmaker and book illustrator, who often took a lighthearted and humorous approach in her work. Her subjects are based on memories from her youth. Here, a woman looks down into an ice hole while two geese prance behind her. The rounded forms are typical of the Inuit print workshop style, which began in the early 1950s. Stone was much more plentiful than wood and was used to make print plates. Like woodcuts, it is a relief printmaking technique. After the limited edition of prints is made, the stone is shaved down and reused. 44/50 |
