The Staten Island Advance published its first issue in April 1886 as the Richmond County Advance becoming the Daily Advance and then the Staten Island Advance by the time Samuel I. Newhouse bought the majority interest in the 1920s. This issue from April 23, 1923 lists Newhouse among the owners of the Staten Island Advance. Newhouse went on to establish an influential media company named Advance Publications. The Staten Island Museum has almost a full run of the Staten Island Advance on microfilm. |
