Scope & Content |
Cornelius G. Kolff was a founder of the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce and a prominent realtor on the Island at the turn of the 20th century. His company Kolff and Kaufmann, Inc., developed many of the Island's neighborhoods; Emerson Hill, in particular, captured Kolff's imagination. Kolff bought much of the property surrounding Douglas Road from Walter Price in 1929 and created a plan for the development of the neighborhood, which is delineated in this brochure. Kolff himself lived on Emerson Hill and had a deep interest in its history. |
